Supporting Livelihoods During Uncertain Times

Following lockdown measures by the Zimbabwean government, many farmers started facing challenges related to demand, workforce and widespread uncertainty. Through the Rural Transformation and Sustainable Livelihoods (RTSL) project –an initiative launched to re-imagine rural economic livelihoods and community- transforming innovations.  Farmers in various parts of the nation such as Seke, Goromonzi, and Bindura were assisted with bags of feed for their layer chicken projects ensuring continuity of their livelihoods. Through this partnership with the farmers, 26 children’s homes received 620 crates of eggs, which benefitted over 1,180 children.

In addition the RTSL working with Ugesi Energy( an Econet Group company) completed a 100 kW solar power project in Ndolwane, in the province of  Matabeleland  South. The mini solar grid – a first for the small community –provides electricity to 18 small businesses as well as the community hospital, primary school and secondary school; painting a great picture of how rural Africa can be re-imagined.
